What Is Tahini?
Tahini is a type of ground-bred sesame seed paste or sauce. It is the foundation of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Apparently, it is only one of the 40 Sesame species that belongs to the Pedaliaceae family. Throughout North Africa, Europe, Israel, Turkey, and Iraq Tahini has been popular for thousands of years.
It’s still the main ingredient for hummus, baba ghanoush, halfwheel and all alone. The Tahini sauce was written in the ancient texts by the Tigris and the Euphrates historians some 4000 years ago.
This included Herodotus, who recalled that he was used for royalty as a food worthy of the gods. Tahini has been distributed in the United States since about the 1940s. Before recently, it was probably found only in health food shops or ethnic stores.
But today it is marketed and included in receipts in popular restaurants, most big supermarkets.
Sesame seeds help lower cholesterol, have digestive fibers, raise blood pressure, regulate hormones. It works more just like other seeds and noodles.
